(After William Shakespeare)

Directed by Tom Massey

Season: 11th July - 8th August 2015
Preview night 10th July

Sunday matinée at 4.30pm

The Genesian Theatre is auditioning for three actors of any age to present the wonderfully inventive and funny The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) from the Reduced Shakespeare Company on the Genesian stage in the Sydney CBD 11th July - 8th August.

There will be a reading of the play Weds 29th April, 7pm at the Genesian Theatre, 420 Kent St, Sydney. All are welcome to attend, even if you don't intend to audition. This should be a fun night getting to know the play.

Auditions will be held by appointment on Sat 2nd May, with callbacks in the week following.

The essential idea of this play is that we have three actors who may (or may not) know a lot about the Bard present the entirety of his work at a rapid pace in the course of one evening of theatre.

The script is written for three men (the three original creators of the show), however we are open to the idea of casting women as there's a lot of room given to rewrite the script to suit our production.

This play will involve a lot of creative input from the actors, with the need to work on the script to develop and localise it for a Sydney audience in 2015.

We are looking for actors with a flair for quick improvisation, the ability to develop strong instant rapport when talking directly to an audience, a strong understanding and strong reaction to Shakespeare's work (love or hate, either is good - we don't want lukewarm responses to Shakespeare), and a very silly walk and/or voice. If your own silly walk is a bit hidden but you're brilliant at Shakespeare we also strongly encourage you to apply for an audition.

The ability to play a musical instrument such as a guitar would be of great interest.

We ask all actors auditioning to prepare Hamlet's "What a piece of work is a man" monologue. We are looking for a very simple and vulnerable version of this monologue.

We would also like to see a monologue that involves you directly working the crowd. This can be a piece of your own choosing, a bit of stand up you have in your pocket, or we can supply a monologue from the play for you to work on - we want to see what you yourself do when put in front of an audience and need to interact and joke with them.

No problems if you'd like to hold a copy of your script to read from - the audition is not about line learning.

Callbacks will involve grouping actors and playing various Theatresports related games to see how people work together, as a lot of this play requires the actors to quickly impro solutions together.

Please contact director Tom Massey at completeworks@genesiantheatre.com.au for more information or to book an audition.
