Opportunity Dirty Apple

at Opera Queensland - Brisbane

Opera Queensland is conducting auditions, on behalf of its co-production partners, to cast 17 young artists in the collaborative youth opera Dirty Apple which will make its world première in July as part of the Q150 celebrations and Queensland Music Festival.

The auditions will be held on Friday, 27 February from 4pm to 7pm at Opera Queensland’s Rehearsal Studio, located in the company’s offices in the Queensland Conservatorium Building, 16 Russell Street, South Bank. Call-backs will be on Saturday, 28 February from 2pm to 5pm. Singers participating in the audition must be aged between 14 and 20.

The panel adjudicating the auditions will consist of Opera Queensland’s Chief Executive/Artistic Director Chris Mangin, Head of Music Narelle French, Artistic Administrator Brad Jarrett and Education Liaison Officer Kellie Kremmer, together with the production’s Director Michael Futcher and Librettist Shaun Charles.

Dirty Apple is a compelling new opera which deals with the controversial issue of
cyber-bullying. The work has been developed by a team of young people working alongside 21-year-old composer Jonathan Henderson, librettist Shaun Charles and a small team of professional artists. The seven-performance season will be staged at the Brisbane Powerhouse Theatre, marking the first time that Opera Queensland has presented a production at this venue. Co-production partners include Q150, Queensland Music Festival, Backbone Youth Arts, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.

For the successful candidates, this will be a unique opportunity to perform on a professional stage in an exciting new work, the themes of which are relevant to the youth of today and the wider community.
