Supervisor, Vision & Sound

  • Variable Time – 25 hours per week (until 30 June 2017)
  • Band 3.2 – Salary $68,337 (pro-rata)

The Business Unit
Production enables the delivery of Arts Centre and visiting artist performing arts events wherever they may take place. Production comprises staging, lighting, wardrobe, stage management, sound, safety, training, digital arts, events and technical team members.

Current Position Opportunity
This position requires an experienced individual to supervise our Production Sound & Vision Team across all areas of the complex.

Applicants should possess the following skills and knowledge:

  • At least 5 years’ experience within a Projection and Sound crew working in a large scale theatre or similar venue
  • Extensive experience in preparing, documenting and designing sound, projection and AV systems
  • A comprehensive understanding of Projection and sound equipment used in the industry including familiarity with all aspects of sound amplification, projection, projection mapping, Vision switchers, sound recording and audio reproduction
  • Understanding of the theory involved in Projection and Sound concepts and how to create specific sound and artistic visual effects
  • Understand the concepts of signal flow and their application to link and connect Audio, Projection and AV equipment correctly
  • Operational knowledge of electronics, computer systems/networking and sequencing software
  • Strong knowledge of QLAB
  • Knowledge of MAPP, Smaart, SIM, and E.A.S.E software
  • Extensive technical knowledge in the theory of sound propagation
  • Familiar with all projection and sound equipment and its component parts for design requirements and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Projection, Sound and AV practices & understanding of the daily operations across our five main venues and other performance spaces
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence other team members to affect positive outcomes

Typical duties performed at this level may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Working closely with presenters and hirers to deliver a consistent high quality of Projection, Sound & AV systems and services
  • Leading and managing a team of Sound & Vision Technicians in their day to day duties
  • Setup and operation of all Projection, Sound & AV equipment and services
  • Providing input and feedback on new technologies, equipment election and software upgrades
  • Providing technical support and guidance to presenters in the delivery of Projection, Sound & AV outcomes
  • Engagement in new technologies and provide Projection, Sound & AV equipment and venue maintenance
  • Assisting in keeping the Projection, Sound & AV infrastructure replacements are planned, designed and maintained
  • Ensuring OH&S procedures are adhered to by our team and presenters for all performances, events and activities across the ACM precinct
  • Provide on the job training to the team, especially in the areas of in-house Projection, Sound & AV equipment, manual handling techniques and ensuring staff are aware of the day to day operational procedures used in the venues
  • Resolving technical problems in all Arts Centre Melbourne and external venues as required by the Manager, Sound & Vision

Applicant Requirements
The position requires an experienced individual to participate in staging crews across all areas of the complex. The successful applicant will require a relevant Trade Certificate at a recognised institution or a minimum of two years’ experience, participating in stage teams to a capacity equal to Staging Technician in the event- theatre industry.
