Calling All Buskers
at QPAC - Brisbane
CHANCE TO SHARE IN $10,000 WORTH OF CASH AND PRIZES
We’re searching the shopping malls, street corners and parks of Australia for the most innovative, talented and audacious entertainers in the country.
Whether whimsical, witty, wonderful or wacky, buskers have an uncanny ability to grab our attention, delight us with their antics and then wrangle the loose change from our pockets while we cheer them on!
From amateur beat boxers to virtuosic violinists, clowns to contortionists, and statues to stilt-walkers, this unique breed of performers injects an unexpected burst of entertainment into the daily lives of pedestrians everywhere.
In an effort to “discover” and showcase talented street performers, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is asking buskers from across the nation to take a leap from the street to the stage as part of the inaugural BU$K Australian Busking Competition.
Director John Kotzas said QPAC’s goal is to establish the largest, most accessible and highest profile annual busking competition in Australia.
“Broadly our aims are to support innovation and creativity in the Australian performing arts community; to discover and provide exposure and potential future opportunities for unique street performance artists from around Australia; and to attract large and diverse audiences to our newly redeveloped centre, as the nation’s top street entertainers go head-to-head.
“We encourage buskers Australia wide to enter our new BU$K competition. With $10,000 in cash and prizes, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fill your hat with more loose change than you can carry, balance or juggle,” said Mr Kotzas.
Casting Director, Damien Anthony Rossi, brought on board as QPAC Guest Producer for the competition said that BU$K offers a unique opportunity to highlight the diverse talents of our nation’s burgeoning community of buskers and street performance artists.
“I was delighted when QPAC approached me with the concept. As a casting director of over 20 years and having lived and travelled in many different countries, I have discovered some amazing talent and have enjoyed seeing many diverse and entertaining buskers around the world.
“Through BU$K, I look forward to discovering some of our own country’s richly diverse and uniquely entertaining talent; and to presenting a competition with QPAC, that is sure to make an immensely enjoyable outing for audiences of all ages.”
If you reckon you’ve got what it takes to be named Australia’s best busker and share in the big bucks on offer, then make a video of your performance, visit the BU$K website at www.qpac.com.au/busk , fill out the online application form, and submit a link to your video application.
