Full-time Lead Special Effects Technician

at Dragone Macau Limited Macau SAR

1. Main purpose of the job :
• Reporting to the Special Effects Head of Department (HOD), the Lead Special Effects Technician responsible for leading the show operations of the special effects team.
• The Special Effects Department is responsible for many effects in the House of Dancing Water production in the City of Dreams resort in Macau, China. These effects include, but are not limited to water fountains, LN2 fog system, Air Bubbles (Water Masking), and traditional theatrical Hazers and Foggers.

2. Roles and Responsibilities:
Responsible / Accountable
• Operate the special effects systems in a safe and consistent manner for performances, artist training, and maintenance operations.
• Inspect and maintain special effects equipment and systems; update maintenance, inventory, and inspection records as directed; work with the HOD to develop systems and procedures.
• Is responsible for the show consumables management and work with the HOD to prepare orders and manage their storage.
• Is responsible for the daily show report.
• The Lead Technician is responsible for the maintenance, cleanup, customization of the control systems interface; GrandMA2, PLC sub control system, network quality and must maintain and communicate a proper log book and communication on this subject.
• Establish and maintain good relationship with other departments, partners, consultants and vendors and keep a proactive approach of any issues.
• The Lead Technician elaborate and promote, with the Head of Department, the proper routine top lead to a successful, safe and fast show operation preparation.
• Create, motivate and execute projects that covers technical and administrative development within the Special Effects department to improve systems, safety, work conditions, show cures special effects systems efficiency.
• To train and educate new technicians within his field of expertise and the department established procedures.
• Work on developing new procedures when needed or dimmed necessary.
• Maintain a safe working environment by conforming to all establishes safety policies and procedures participate in all required safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training.
• Work with the teams in developing rescue and safety strategies.
• Maintain a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsals, training, maintenance and evening show performances.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of all Special Effects Department equipment specific to the production in order to operate it safely.
• Participate in special projects, including the installation of new special effects show elements as directed.
• Perform other tasks and carry out projects as assigned by the head of Special Effects.

Objectives
• Maintain a good team atmosphere.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of all special effects equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely and educate/train new technicians for the department/company procedures and policies.
• The Lead Show Technician will motivate the communication within and between Dragone technical, artistic and administrative departments.
• As directed by the HOD, preserve the ongoing, long-term artistic integrity of the effects during performances and for rehearsals in keeping with the original intent of the Special Effects Designer and/or as directed by the Artistic Director.
• Work closely with the Artistic and Stage Management Department to maintain a good relationship, partnership and support between each department and organize, support or initiate: show file update, show changes, corrections, special events programming.
• Insure that the necessary logs, reports of all kind regarding the special effects systems operations are reported daily to the right company members and that they are accurate.

3. Qualifications :
Education
• Experienced with control systems for live entertainment
• Fluent spoken and written English is required
• Qualified in control system programming, computers technology would be a plus
• Experienced with Special Effects Operations for live shows
• Strong computer knowledge required
• Computer knowledge with the basic office software, eventually AutoCAD or other technical publication and design software
• Experience troubleshooting and operating LN2 fog systems, stage smoke/hazers, natural gas flame effects, pyrotechnic and flame effects licenses would be an asset
• Good Technical understanding in general
• Organized



Experience
• Experienced with control systems for live entertainment.
