JOB DESCRIPTION

Norwegian Cruise Line is looking for theatrical wardrobe stitchers for short installation contracts onboard many of our cruise ships.
To assist onboard Wardrobe Supervisors achieve an efficient cast installation into pre-existing costumes within an extremely quick time frame.
Must be at least 18 years old to apply.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Fit, alter and sew theatrical costumes to the specifics requested by management, in a timely fashion.
Laundry: washing, ironing, steaming, pressing, categorizing laundry by show.
Possible pattern making, draping, cutting and dying.
Assist in dressing and creating backstage tracks during dress rehearsals.
Inventory and pack road boxes for offload.
Shoe repair and painting, wig maintenance, millinery repair, crafts building and repair.
Organize stock areas, costume racks and road boxes.
Foam character maintenance and repair.
Any other duty deemed necessary by management pertaining to the costume department.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree with a major in Theatrical Costuming preferred; or any equivalent combination of relevant and work related skills and experience;
Minimum 2 years costume shop experience in theatrical costume building and alteration, OR
Minimum 2 years of ship experience fitting and altering costumes, OR
Minimum 2 years of experience working on tour or in summer stock companies in the costume department.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Expertise in theatrical wig maintenance, styling, washing, dying, fitting, hair prep,
Experience in alteration, pattern making, draping, hand and machine sewing, washing, dying, millinery, craft building and repair, dressing, backstage track creation, shoe repair, wig maintenance, foam character maintenance.
Knowledge of cruise ship entertainment operations.
Understanding of theatrical wardrobe practices and principles.
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
Sound problem-solving skills.
Work well with different personalities and nationalities within the cast and crew.
