Full-time Assistant Head of Aquatics

1. Main purpose of the job :

Responsible for assisting the Head of Aquatics in leading the aquatics team to install, maintain and operate systems and procedures related underwater activities in a safe and consistent manner for The House of Dancing Water. Responsible for the management of the department in the absence of the Head of Aquatics.

2. Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsible / Accountable
• Provide necessary initial integration and training of new Dive Technicianin to the Dragone Theatre.
• Assist with the creation and management of the Aquatics Department operating budget.
• Ensure that all staff is current with first aid and emergency response training.
• Maintain a safe working environment by conforming to all established safety policies and procedures; participate in all required safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training.
• Maintain a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsals, training, maintenance and evening show performances.
• In collaboration with the Aquatics Department coordinate all water safety and lifesaving training to all staff.
• Operate the show elements (scenery, props, hydraulic, water, and pneumatic effects) during performances, as directed.
• Assist with the integration and training of new artists into the Dragone Theatre.
• Assist the creative team with creation and development of bew show concepts.
• All other duties as assigned by the Head of Aquatics.

• Assist and coordinate with the Maintenance Department for the successful operations of the scuba related equipment, underwater scenic elements and pool systems.
• Participate in the documentation for all pool surface and underwater safety.
• Participate in the responsibility and documentation for the continual development of aquatic systems during the show load-in, rehearsal, and operations periods.
• Participate in the monitoring and establishment of a safe working environment both on the surface of the water and underwater, as directed by the Head of Aquatics.
• Work with the teams in developing rescue and safety strategies.

• Assist with the purchase and maintenance of all diving equipment, including, but not limited to: tank filing, air compressor checks, first and second stage regulators, BCD’s and all instruments and gauges. In addition, you will assist with the establishment and accuracy of a diving equipment’s/shop maintenance log.
• Assist with long term staffing requirements and rotating schedules for aquatic training supervision of underwater work calls and maintenance of the diving equipment.
• Assist with the ongoing development of an inspection of the installations and participate with such inspections regularly.
• Assist in evolving aquatic rescue protocols with outside professionals, and ensure the training of the team and performers in these protocols.

3. Qualifications :

• Accreditation and certificates indicating an appropriate level of training for the above responsibilities.

• Minimum of 6 years of related work experience as Divemaster and SCUBA instruction to novice divers.
• Minimum of 5 years of related field experience and training in working underwater with electric, pneumatic and hydraulic power equipment.

Other Skills
• A proven ability to make novice divers and artists feel comfortable working in the water environment.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Knowledge of MS Windows and MS office systems.
• A strong personality with proven talents in leadership, safety, and teamwork.
• Fluent in English is an essential.
