Full-time General Stage Manager

at Dragone Macau Limited Macau SAR

1. Main purpose of the job :

Reporting operationally to the Resident Artistic Director, Macau, during Operations.


2. Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsible / Accountable
• Manage the daily performance, rehearsal and training operations and run the daily performances.
• Prepare the performance script, show, training, and staging reports.
• Call the show cues as necessary for each performance week.
• Run a deck track (1 of 4) for performances as needed when not calling the show.
• Train the other Stage Management Department in all of the necessary areas of operation including showcall, schedule and lineup.
• Maintain a healthy department through consistent and open communication with the Stage Management Team , identifying scope for training, growth and promotion.
• Ensure positive relations between the Stage Management, Technical and Artistic Teams.
• Prepare the daily show report with respect to all technical and performance aspects.
• Work with the Operations Technical Director, technical heads of departments and the Head of Health Services to formulate, rehearse and implement safety plans and procedures for the stage.
• Develop and implement efficient and safe protocols for dealing with problems that may arise during a show or rehearsal.
• Schedule and coordinate regular emergency procedure drills and assure that there are backups for each position in the protocol
• Assist the Resident Artistic Director in the integration of new cast; be able to and availble to plot out a show track (exits, entrances, costume changes etc;) and lead the new performer through it without the intervention of the Artistic Director or Coordinator as required.
• Create and maintain a series of forms that create a clear and easily followed plot for the show including but not limited to: combo sheet, prop plot, performers’ track sheets and technicians’ track sheets.
• Coordinate the implementation of changes within the show with appropriate departments technical and otherwise.
• Facilitate performer replacement on a daily basis in collaboration with the Resident Artistic Director.
• Participate in the decision making process concerning changes made to training or performances in the event of injury or illness of a performer or any other occurrence, which might cause modifications to the normal process of training, or performance.
• Ensure the video recording and archiving of each performance with the rest of the Stage Management.
• With Artistic and Technical departments, coordinate the schedule for training, creation, technical rehearsals, costume fittings and any other special events and communicate the daily schedule for the production to appropriate parties.
• Manage special event performances, as required.
• Sensitize and provide assistance to the performers as concerns their interaction with all stage management needs (ex; changing or exchanging cues without notifiying etc.)



• Provide factual information as needed for all issues related to performer and employee disciplinary measures to the Resident Artistic Director for follow through. Assure tracking as required
• Execute artistic instructions and ensure that all safety standards are followed.
• Manage the performance of the Stage Management team: including conducting performance reviews, participating in the hiring of new employees and lead the team.
• Manage the Stage Management Department to maintain the highest quality, and safe and consistent operations for the performers in the show.
• Manage all Stage Management activities and operations on a day-to-day basis and prepare the schedules for the team.
• Process the time and attendance for the performers and stage management staff and submit to Payroll on a weekly basis.
• Attend management meetings as required (weekly performance, HOD and scheduling meetings).
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Support
• Assist the Resident Artistic Director and coaches in achieving a plan for “covers” for each role in the show in case of illness of injury. Assist with the rehearsals for the “covers”.
• Create a contingency bible for all technical and artistic problems, ensure all show callers are up to date in their review, practicing where necessary for operational preparedness.
• Communicate and maintain all company policies and procedures .

Consulted
• Consulted on any and all Marketing and/or Promotional activities requiring the participation of performers including special events, photos shoots, media etc.
• Consulted on show schedulling and augmentation of number of shows.

Informed
• Informed on all workman’s compensation insurance policies.
• Informed on any scheduled visits from the creative teams.
• Informed on emergency response and typhoon policy updates.


3. Qualifications :

Education
• High school diploma or GED required; a college degree preferred.

Experience
• A minimum of six (6) years experience in stage management for large scale, location based, live theatrical production with no less than 2 years as a Production Stage Manager or General Stage Manager.
• A minimum of three years of Show Caller experience on a large scale, location based, live theatrical production









Other Skills
• The ability to supervise and discipline artistic/performance personnel and to perform under pressure.
• Must possess problem solving skills and strong interpersonal skills with proven skills in leadership and teamwork.
• Must be flexible and able to quickly adapt to unexpected situations, to work with a varied schedule and tight deadlines.
• Knowledge and understanding of automations, fluid effects and rigging which apply to cueing and creating a safe work environment for performers and crew.
• Ability to learn or update lifesaving skills and to become CPR/First Responder trained.
• Ability to swim with a high level of comfort in the water.
• Ability to become SCUBA certified.
• The ability to be a team builder and to create strong teams.
• The ability to break down barriers between backstage and onstage personnel.
• Ability to supervise personnel and to perform under pressure.
• Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be willing to attend rehearsal and training periods.
• Ability to work an extended schedule throughout the creation and rehearsal periods.
• Willingness to define, practice and conform to safe working procedures.
• Knowledge of PC based systems and MS Office software.
• Excellent written ability in the English language.
• Knowledge of French is an asset.
