General Manager
at Tamarama Rock Surfers Theatre Company - Sydney
The General Manager oversees all company operations, working closely with Artistic Director (CEO), acts as a primary point of contact with all directors and producers presented by the company in the venue, acts as a representative and advocate for the company at other industry events, forums and opening nights, writes grants for the local, state and federal funding rounds, develop fundraising strategies with the board and government partners, works on annual budgets and production budgets with the Board.
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in several aspects of administration and have a strong track record working both independently and as part of a team. The General Manager must have the ability to multi-task and must have initiative to work with very limited budgets.
This job requires a motivated, innovative and idealistic individual to drive the operations of a small theatre company with big ideas.
Essential requirements:
- Experience working in management.
- Business development and business management skills.
- Experience with grant writing and/or fundraising.
- Basic understanding of marketing and publicity.
- Creative ideas on how to grow and develop a small organization.
- Initiative to plan and execute growth strategies.
Ideal –but not essential- requirements:
- Knowledge of the Australian theatre and performance industry
- Established connections with theatre boards of major funding bodies (ArtsNSW/OzCo).
- Established connections with fundraising and philanthropic organizations (ArtsSupport/ABAF/Foundations).
- Experience working in a not-for-profit arts organization.
Organisational Profile:
The Tamarama Rock Surfers (TRS) are the resident and founding theatre company at the Old Fitzroy Theatre. TRS is a two-fold operation: we manage the venue and present a season and also produce our own shows. TRS are funded at a federal and state level. TRS have a newly formed, energetic and well-connected board. TRS is a company that occupies a niche in the Australian theatre industry and is a company on the grow – we have tripled our government funding from the years 2008-2009, and expanded our capacity to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for artists and arts workers affiliated with the organization.
The Tamarama Rock Surfers Theatre Company is dedicated to the development and presentation of contemporary theatre and performance practice. Our particular focus as the resident company at the Old Fitzroy Theatre is on the development of new Australian writing and nurturing the emerging generations of Australian theatre artists and practitioners.
