AUDITION NOTICE
BENEFIT
A Rock Musical
Expressions of interest are sought from Performers who would like to be involved in a new short musical film to be filmed in Sydney on September 14, 15 and 16th, 2009. Benefit is the major project for the year for Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) Directing Student Jakub Jacko. Jakub is currently being assisted in the dance auditioning process by Richard James Allen.
Synopsis
Benefit is a contemporary blues/rock musical about Sam, an impoverished, insecure nineteen year-old finding his voice as a musician. When Sam’s idol, JonJon Gibson, dies, Sam feels lost and alone. He resolves to attend JonJon’s tribute concert but needs to raise money for a ticket. Sam must decide whether to sell his guitar or risk humiliation by performing and trying to earn himself a ticket.
Featured dancers and supporting dancers are sought for the big final production number as Sam busks in the streets of Newtown, and possibly elsewhere in the film.
Casting for:
• 3 or 4 Featured Male Dancers – to play roles such as a Junkie, a Drug Dealer and an Art Student - professional dancing and some acting skills required.
• 4 or 5 Featured Female Dancers – to play roles such as Rock Chicks, Butch Girls and a Prostitute - professional dancing and some acting skills required.
• 20 Supporting Dancers Male or Female – to play assorted audience members cuing for the benefit concert who join in the group dance – some dance and acting skills required.
Audition Dates:
• Friday July 31, 2009, 6-10pm
• Saturday August 1, 12-4pm
Audition Location:
• AFTRS, The Entertainment Quarter, 130 Bent Street, Moore Park, NSW 2021
Format of Auditions:
• The auditions will be held in a workshop style beginning with a yoga and dance warm up, the creation and learning of dance phrases, and possibly some physical/character improvisation and/or creative problem solving tasks.
Please bring warm dance clothes, a yoga mat if you have one and shoes
you can dance in – the building is air conditioned and does not have a sprung floor.
Rehearsals:
• TBA but featured performers will be required for a number of rehearsals likely to be held on various weekday and Saturday afternoons – final scheduling will be subject to availability of dancers and rehearsal space co-ordination by AFTRS Production and Resources Department. Supporting dancers will be required for less rehearsals.
All performers will likely be required for costume consultations.
Payment:
• At this stage volunteers are sought for all the dance roles.
However the production will be a highly professional one
likely to be seen in festivals around the world and a useful show reel piece.
