Volunteer Don Quixote

at Epicentre Theatre - Sydney

We are urgently seeking for 2 male actors 30+ to complete our cast for this modern adaptation of Don Quixote produced by Epicentre Theatre Company. Please forward to anyone you think would be interested and suitable.

The play will be performed at Castlecrag's Haven Amphitheatre (outdoor venue) at the end of November/early December. Below is information about rehearsals & character brief.

The Play: Epicentre Theatre Company brings back to life "The knight of the Rueful Countenance" in this modern adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes' classic tale. Presented under the stars at the beautiful Haven Amphitheatre in Castlecrag, the play portrays the imaginary life of an old man in a nursing home who believes he is Don Quixote, the famous knight-errant. When his imaginary world collides with the "real world", his family and the medical staff will do anything to bring him back to his former life - even join him in his fantasy. Quirky and spectacular, this play blurs the fine line between Reality and Illusion.

Dr Carasco: Don Quixote's nemesis. He is a doctor at the nursing home who has his feet firmly planted in "Reality". He is cunning, serious and determined to bring Mr Quinn (Don Quixote) back to the nursing home. In act 3, the nursing home staff go undercover, disguise themselves and enter the mad world of Don Quixote to lure Mr Quinn back...

The Psychiatrist: There's the old adage that says: 'In a mental institution, the only difference between staff and patients is that the staff has the keys"... It would certainly be true when it comes to this Psychiatrist. He is a bit zany and only just manages to pass for normal. When given the opportunity to dress up as Princess Micomicona in act 3, he delights in the moment.

In a comedic duo, Dr Carasco would be the straight man, the Psychiatrist the crazy guy.

Rehearsals: Mondays & Wednesday evenings as well as Sunday all day. Rehearsals are at The Haven in Castlecrag on Sundays, and at Warner's Park Centre in Northbridge on week nights.

Performances: 7 shows over 2 weekends - (Fri/Sat/Sun) 27, 28, 29 November and 4,5,6 December.

This is a non-paid project.
