Opportunity Seeking Director for May season of Cosi

at Eagles Nest Theatre - Melbourne

Position Description
In May 2010 Eagle’s Nest Theatre will be presenting a production of Cosi by Louis Nowra. There will be a 3 week season for the general public at the Northcote Town Hall. In addition to the main stage season we will also be touring the production to schools.

We are aiming to secure a Director as soon as possible so that the auditions can be held during February and rehearsals can begin in March. Our usual rehearsal process is approximately 8 weeks (2 nights per week – Tuesday/Thursday and 1 days on weekends – Sunday) There is some potential flexibility with this schedule and in particular if the Director wishes to rehearse during working hours on week days rehearsal space is available

Payment details
Payment for this position is on a profit share basis. With the school bookings already confirmed we have almost covered our production costs before we go into the General Public season, which means that almost all the takings from the season will go directly into profit share. Cosi is a well known play with the potential to attract good houses so if we do the job well there is every reason to believe that the show should be a financial success.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
The Director will have complete creative control over the production. With the assistance of the Stage Manager the Director will be responsible for:

  • Securing Designers and working with them throughout the production.
  • Organising Auditions/casting
  • Coordinating and running rehearsals.
  • The creative components of production week up until opening night.

The director will be well supported in this show. Eagle’s Nest will ensure that the production is well resourced, administered and publicised so that the director can really focus on their creative duties.

Experience/Skills
The key things we will be looking for are passion and commitment – a creative vision and the potential to work well with people. Eagle’s Nest values directors who are able to be the leader and figurehead for the production but they must also enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment. Certainly having some previous directing experience doesn’t hurt – but it is NOT A MUST – if we think you’ve got what it takes then we won’t shy away from giving a first timer a go.

To Apply
To request an interview please send an expression of interest and CV to Producer/Production manager: Jo, joban84@hotmail.com

We will be organising interviews will relevant applicants immediately so please don’t hesitate in submitting your application. We don’t want you to waste hours drafting a formal cover letter or application – just give us an idea of who you are, what you’ve done and why you want to do this.

If you want to speak to someone before applying Jo can be contacted on: 0401 152 432
