AUDITION NOTICE
Eagles Nest Theatre Company – Season 1 May 10-30

General Information

We are seeking actors who for our forthcoming production of Cosi by Louis Nowra

Directed by Dione Joseph, Cosi is to be staged as part of a 3 week general public season at Northcote Town Hall. In addition to the performances at Northcote we will be touring the production to schools during the season dates. This means that there will be both daytime and evening performances.

Payment for this position is on a profit share basis. With a number of school bookings already confirmed the production will be starting the general public season from close to a break-even point. This means that most of the door takings from the General Public season will go directly into profit share. We also anticipate that Cosi will have a broad appeal and sell well and that the import works will bring a substantial audience with them. What this means is that if all goes according to plan there should be at least a small amount of money involved

Auditions will be held from February 21st to February 28th

Please note the following – Auditions be 15 minutes in duration – Actors will be auditioned in pairs – Actors are expected to perform a monologue approx. 2-3 minutes in length from Cosi. – Actors should have a particular role in mind when auditioning – Actors need to bring a copy of their CV and a headshot for the director. If you would like Eagle’s Nest Theatre to keep your CV on file please bring a second copy of your CV / Headshot.

First read will be held on Sunday 14th of March

From this date until the commencement of the season the weekly rehearsal schedule will be Tuesday and Thursday nights 6.30pm – 9.30pm and Sundays 11am-4pm

As there will most likely be a huge response to Cosi, when we allocate you an audition time please do not request to change it unless absolutely necessary as we may not be able to offer an alternative

About the director and her approach to the play.

Hailing from New Zealand Dione Joseph has been involved as a producer, writer, actor and director in New Zealand, the USA and Australia and is currently completing a thesis on the Aesthetics of Indigenous Theatre at the University of Melbourne. Directing credits include: Land of Hearts Desire, Heartbreak House, Hedda Gabler, Fools, Death and the King’s Horseman, Spider in the Rose, Tongue Meat: A Feast of Urban Fairytales and Bi Never Equals Two.

Directing Cosi for Eagles Nest Theatre is an opportunity that is ‘wickedly exciting’ – not only because of the cyclic ‘play within a play’ set right here in Melbourne’s theatre neighbourhood – but also because Louis Nowra’s humour and sensitivity offers audiences a unique glimpse into the rehearsal process of a young director working with mental patients. The ability to play, while simultaneously being dis-played for an audience calls upon all participants (and this includes the audience) to question their different selves and ask one of the underlying questions of Nowra’s play: ‘Who or what is normal and how do we know?
