SET AND COSTUME DESIGNERS WANTED
at Eaglesnest Theatre Victoria
Position Description
In August 2010 Eagle’s Nest Theatre will be presenting a production of M. The Scottish Play (Macbeth) by William Shakespeare. There will be a 1 week season for the general public at the Northcote Town Hall. In addition to the main stage season we will also be touring the production to schools.
We have confirmed School Bookings on 21st July, 13th August, 7th September, 11thOctober 2010.
We are aiming to find Designers as soon as possible. We will require a Set Designer and a Costume Designer. You will be working closely with the Director to create design concepts and visions. The director has a strong Japanese horror film influence and is drawing on Japanese film director, Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood.
Rehearsals commence with the first read on 15th May 2010. Throughout the rehearsal process you will work closely with the Director and Stage Manager to ensure that all design aspects of the show are ready in time for the season and touring shows that commence in July 2010.
Payment details
Payment for this position is on a profit share basis. With the school bookings already confirmed we have almost covered our production costs before we go into the General Public season, which means that almost all the takings from the season will go directly into profit share. Macbeth is a well known play with the potential to attract good houses so if we do the job well there is every reason to believe that the show should be a financial success.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The Set and Costume Designers will be responsible for:
• Working with the director to develop design concepts
• Sourcing and pricing materials
• Working within budget
• Ensuring timely completion of design brief.
• Ensuring the Stage Manager is briefed on proper use and maintenance of all design elements
Once the production is in season the Stage Manager will be responsible for the show, however in the case of any problems you must be available during the season for maintenance if required.
Experience/Skills
The key things we will be looking for are passion, commitment and flair for design. You must be able to work both collaboratively with the director as well as completing the work independently. Previous experience as a Designer certainly doesn’t hurt – but it is NOT A MUST. The key thing is that you must be able to do the job – if you’ve got what it takes then we won’t shy away from giving a first timer a go.
To Apply
To request an interview please send an expression of interest and CV to Producer/Production manager: Rachal Van Wyk E: rvanwyk.tt@gmail.com
We will be organising interviews with relevant applicants as soon as possible, so please don’t hesitate in submitting your application. We don’t want you to waste hours drafting a formal cover letter or application - just give us an idea of who you are, what you’ve done and why you want to do this.
If you want to speak to someone before applying Rachal can be contacted on: 0405 738 956
