Actors for Profit Share production of 'Poppy'
at Factory Space Theatre Company - Sydney
FACTORY SPACE THEATRE COMPANY AUTDITION NOTICE for:
'Poppy' - a black comedy with Music, by Peter Nichols, music by Monty Norman.
Uses the fun of the traditional pantomime form to satirize civilization, commerce and Christianity.
Poppy is slang for opium and money.
The play is NOT for children.
It contains a piece of short film of an opium (poppy) dream, using the stage cast.
• Directed by Roz Riley
• Opening July 10th, 2010 at Star of the Sea Theatre, Manly. This the 14th year of productions for the Factory Space Theatre Company and the 5th as the resident company at Star of the Sea
• Rehearsing 6 weeks from 30th May, at Wollstonecraft and theatre in Manly
• Playing Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun (Matinee) for 3 weeks

Major Characters to be cast: (we are looking for actors with a basic musical abilities – not primarily singers)
Male 40 to 60 to play Lady Dodo. “: Dodo, the Dame, is played by a man and wears hunting gear hung about with dead animals and carries a smoking shotgun.” Savage, sexy and scary.
Female 25 to 35 to play Dick Wittington her son: “ the principal boy, played by a beautiful young woman. He is wearing black but it's a tight-fitting suit with high-heeled shoes and legs in tights reaching nearly to his shoulders.”
Anxious to repair the family fortunes, he will marry the girl he wishes for.
Male 25 to 45 to play Jack Idle. “He's bright, hard-working, speaks with a cockney accent. He leads Randy, a blue pantomime horse” Batman to Dick, in love with Sally Forth, helpless to alter the course of fate.
Male 40 to 60 to play Obediah Upward: Robust, prosperous, hearty – sells opium to the Chinese.
And we are looking for an onstage pianist/ foley artist.
