**URGENT** DIRECTORS REQUIRED for The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project
at The Colour Blind Project - Sydney
Professional and emerging directors interested in directing original short works for The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project are required.
The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project is a curated festival celebrating independent, innovative and new works for performance in order to showcase the diverse pool of indigenous and multi-cultural talent in Australia.
The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project aims to challenge the stereotypes of what represents “Gay Sydney” and bring the Sydney LGBT community into the 21st Century. Hot on the heels of the Colour Blind Project’s critically acclaimed sell out season of Sydney’s most exciting multicultural and indigenous short play festival, The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project aims to bring the concept to a completely new audience in association with Australia’s premier LGBT event, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
The LGBT community has often felt segregated from the wider Australian community, however many LGBT individuals feel that they are judged on their race and cultural background within this community. These judgements leave many feeling that the LGBT community in Sydney has become very Euro/Anglo-centric and though it may accept an individual’s sexuality, that acceptance does not seem to stretch to accommodate one’s racial background.
We are looking for directors that want to work on plays that are robust and cover a range of styles and genres.
The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project runs from 23rd February to 4th March at the Sidetrack Theatre, Marrickville, with rehearsals to begin from 31st January.
