SET DESIGNER required for The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project
at The Colour Blind Project - Sydney
The Colour Blind Project are looking for designers that want to create a versatile set that contains props and set pieces to be utilised for all plays featured in The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project.
The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project is a curated festival celebrating independent, innovative and new works for performance in order to showcase the diverse pool of indigenous and multi-cultural talent in Australia.
The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project aims to challenge the stereotypes of what represents “Gay Sydney” and bring the Sydney LGBT community into the 21st Century. Hot on the heels of the Colour Blind Project’s critically acclaimed sell out season of Sydney’s most exciting multicultural and indigenous short play festival, The Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project aims to bring the concept to a completely new audience in association with Australia’s premier LGBT event, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
The LGBT community has often felt segregated from the wider Australian community, however many LGBT individuals feel that they are judged on their race and cultural background within this community. These judgements leave many feeling that the LGBT community in Sydney has become very Euro/Anglo-centric and though it may accept an individual’s sexuality, that acceptance does not seem to stretch to accommodate one’s racial background.
The design should reflect “Queer Sydney” and create a unifying community atmosphere for the project. Most or all of the set will be constructed using found or recycled objects that will then be returned or donated upon completion of the season.
If you are interested, application forms are available upon request by emailing thecolourblindproject@hotmail.com
