God Of Carnage at Mt Players Macedon
at Mt Players Macedon Victoria
Yasmina Reza’s 2006 play “God of Carnage” is a comedy of manners…without the manners that shows two sets of parents behaving far worse than their children over a playground altercation.
Alan and Annette's son Ferdinand has hit Michael and Veronica's son Bruno with a stick, breaking two of his teeth. The grown-ups have gathered to discuss, logically and amicably, how to deal with the boys, as would befit their bourgeois backgrounds and current professions: one is a lawyer and one just finished a book on the plight of Darfur. After all, nothing will be gained by behaving like children. And at first diplomatic civilities are observed, but as the meeting progresses and the alcohol flows, huge tensions emerge, and the gloves come off, leaving more than just their liberal principles in tatters.
This play picked up six Tony awards in 2009 including Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy on Broadway, and has been performed professionally at the Westend, London and in Australia with MTC, QTC and STC.
