Volunteer GROWL Theatre present Noel Coward's 'Blithe Spirit'

at GROWL Theatre - Brisbane

If you haven’t heard of GROWL before, then there’s a good reason. We’re new!

A LITTLE ABOUT THE COMPANY

This is just a group of people who are interested in getting together and putting on some plays, having some fun and providing some entertainment. The aims of the group will be:

  • To put on productions that are of the best quality possible; ‘amateur’ should not be a synonym for ‘rubbish’!
  • To provide an opportunity for people to hone existing skills and talents, or to build new ones.
  • To provide a group which helps to foster a greater sense of community.
  • To provide an opportunity to meet new people.

The name was inspired by the suburbs from which we’ll mainly draw our members and audiences [GRange, Lutwyche, Windsor, Wilston]. The word ‘GROWL’ also is bold – and starting a new theatre group is certainly that. During 2011, we hope to put on at least one production, depending on interest. It will be an interesting challenge, with the need to create most things from nothing.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE PLAY

Charles Condamine is a writer, happily married for a second time. He wants to make the seance scene in his new book realistic, so he calls in a medium so that he can experience the trickery first hand. Unwittingly Charles finds that he has called up the spirit of his first wife, Elvira, and she is happy to stay.

Charles now has to contend with two wives and ghostly possession. He’d just like his life back!

Noel Coward wrote this timeless favourite in 1941 and his droll wit has been pleasing crowds ever since. Growl Theatre is happy to present this as our first play.
