“The Local”, an original work for the Sydney Fringe Festival, is currently looking for actors. The play is a one hour comedy focussing on the violent misadventures of a pair of brothers at their local pub – now renovated into Sydney’s trendiest new bar.

We need committed, enthusiastic actors looking to invest time and energy over a short rehearsal period. Performers should have an imaginative flair for comedy as well as a can-do approach to helping out behind the scenes. The production is unpaid.

We are looking for 5 Males / 2 Females:

BEN: 30-something elder brother – a rough-as-guts cricket tragic and ex-con, desperately trying to reinvent himself. A sometimes violent hard-nut, Ben is also perversely sensitive and likeable.

KEITH: His younger brother, a devious reprobate with a line in cutting wit and a tendency toward criminal activities ranging from thievery and vandalism to wholesale acts of terrorism. This is a strong comic role, a wicked if not-quite evil malcontent, charming and disgusting in equal measure.

GARY: 30-40-something owner of the bar – a smugly acerbic, aging Peter Pan with a taste for Botox and skin-peels. A fun, quick-witted antagonistic with a dark secret.

MATT: 20-30 a young good-looking dude whose metro sexual tendencies fail to disguise the fact he is a boofhead.

TIMMY: 20-25 a wide-eyed innocent thrust into the limelight as favoured member of eldest brother’s cricket team.

Note the roles of Matt and Timmy could be played by one versatile actor.

ASHLEY: 20-30. The heroine of the piece, we find her at a moment in her life where she is suddenly compelled to re-examine herself and reject the formula of the society girl. Her good looks and glamour have led people to underestimate her, but she has a strong intelligence and is now ready to rebel.

LUCY: 20-30. Deranged sister of our heroes. An obsessive sociopath, she is more dangerous than her siblings. At times, she is just subtly menacing, but she is quick to snap, and has a monstrous tendency toward extreme behaviour.

CONTACT DETAILS:
All interested performers should send their CV, headshot, their desired role and audition date to jodinemuir@hotmail.com. Further audition information will be provided if considered for an audition.
