To mark the 100th anniversary of Robert Scott's expedition the Genesian Theatre is delighted to have secured the rights to Terra Nova by Oscar and Obie award winning playwright Ted Talley.

A reading of the play will be held at the Genesian Theatre, 420 Kent St Sydney, on Monday 26th September at 7pm.
Auditions will be by appointment on Wednesday 28th September and Saturday 1st October.
Synopsis
Terra Nova is an uplifting, inspiring and deeply moving study of courage under adversity. Based upon the journals of Captain Robert Scott the play describes the heroic ordeal that he and his crew underwent in a race to reach the South Pole. Narrowly beaten by his rival Roald Amundsen, the team perished in unforgiving circumstances on their return to base. Whilst fascinating in revealing the cultural and managerial differences between Scott and Amundsen it is also a more personal portrait of the relationship between Scott and his young wife Kathleen.

Captain Robert Falcon Scott Age 43
Scott is a man of his time and embodies Victorian Muscular Christianity. He is determined, distant and socially inept. British accent.
Roald Amundsen Age 40
Amundsen is strong, determined and highly organised. He is calculating and does not succumb to sentiment. Norwegian accent.
Kathleen Scott Early 30's
Kathleen was a British sculptor who studied under and was later befriended by Rodin. She is strong, determined and creative. Kathleen's relationship with Scott was one of equals. She understood that Scott's need to explore was an essential part of his character. British accent.
Lieutenant Henry Robertson Bowers Age 29 ("Birdie")
Scott described Bowers as "a gallant and noble gentleman". Bowers was to become one of Scott's closest friends. Bowers was short and stout with red hair. He had a dry sense of humour and was dependable and unselfish. British accent.
Captain Lawrence Oates Age 31 ("Titus")
Oates is a soldier to the core. British accent.
Dr Edward Adrian Wilson Age 39
Scott described Wilson as "the finest character he had met" and was probably his closest companion. He was even tempered and dedicated to others. He was respected for his judgement and mediatory skills. British accent.
1st Class Petty Officer Edgar Evans Age 36 ("Taffy")
Evans is described as a "huge bully necked, beefy character", and a "beery womaniser" who was "running a bit to fat". Evans was regarded for his resourcefulness and strength. Evans had cut his hand as the crew neared the South Pole. He was not to recover from this event deteriorating both physically and mentally. Welsh accent.
