Volunteer Auditions: Phantom of the Opera

at Limelight Theatre - Perth

SINGERS, dancers and actors are invited to audition for a local production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s _The Phantom of the Opera_, no matter what their experience.

To be held at Mount Hawthorn’s main hall on May 4 and 5, the production will be staged at Wanneroo’s Limelight Theatre from November 20 to December 14.

The minimum age requirement is 16 but director Bob Mainwaring warns the show is a large commitment with three rehearsals a week from July followed by 20 performances, including two shows on Saturdays.

“We’re excited by the challenge of tackling what’s become the longest running show in Broadway history,” he said.

“It’s a musical theatre classic, focusing on the beautiful soprano Christine Daaé who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius.

“The material for the three leads is extremely demanding, requiring performers who have relevant training, stamina and experience to carry roles of this magnitude.

“People should be reasonable in their desires – but there is a large ensemble with 20 in the cast and 15 in the dance troupe, in addition to the main cast.”

Mainwaring said those auditioning for lead roles needed acting ability while dancers also need to be able to sing.

Audition music can be your own choice but must be in _The Phantom of the Opera_ style. A pianist will be available or you can bring your own music on CD.

Lead role auditionees will be given script excerpts on the day to read and, if successful, will be given a short scene and song to prepare for callbacks.

The audition venue, Mount Hawthorn’s main hall, is located near the corner of Scarborough Beach Road and The Boulevarde.
