Volunteer Max Bialystock and Carmen Ghia for The Producers

at OSMaD Victoria

OSMaD are still seeking Max Bialystock and Carmen Ghia for The Producers

A New Mel Brooks Musical
Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan
Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks

Adapted from the 1968 Mel Brooks film of the same name, The Producers is the story of down-
on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock and his mousy accountant, Leo Bloom. Together, they hatch the ultimate theatrical scam: to raise more money than they need to produce a sure-fire Broadway disaster... and then to pocket the left-over cash when the show flops. Their guaranteed-to-fail fiasco? Springtime for Hitler: The Musical.

The original Broadway production opened in 2001 starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and ran for 6 years. The Producers became the biggest ever hit in Broadway history, sweeping up a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards. It spawned a successful London production, many productions worldwide and another film in 2005. The Australian production starred Reg Livermore, Tom Burlinson, Bert Newton, Tony Sheldon and Chloe Dallimore.

There are few people who can reduce an audience to tears of helpless laughter more readily than Mel Brooks. The 60s TV show Get Smart and countless movies including Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and High Anxiety all bear the unmistakable stamp of Brooks' unique, crazy and quirky sense of humour.
