Sound Operator/Stage Manager required for James and the Giant Peach, touring nationally from April until the end of July 2012. High level experience in live mixing required. This crew person will be required to assist with all aspects of the bump in/out at each venue, as well driving the truck.

Rehearsals take place from the 17th until the 30th of March. Touring nationally from 1st April until the 21st of July. Wages and Living Away from Home Allowances as per the Live Performance Award. Accommodation provided for all venues outside of Melbourne.

About the position
Do you consider yourself as a sound system guru?

We are looking for an experienced Sound System Supervisor to provide leadership and technical expertise to the Arts Centre Melbourne Sound crews to produce world-class sound solutions for a diverse range of performing arts events in our venues including the iconic Theatres building, Hamer Hall and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

Key to your success in this role will be your experience producing drawings for system implementation, knowledge and use of sound system design programs, experience maintaining and documenting sound system time alignment and technical manuals.

Use your expertise and creativity to contribute to the excitement and magic of Australia’s leading performing arts centre!

Current position opportunity

The Arts Centre Melbourne has three great new career opportunities available for people with a passion for technical production in the performing arts.

The Technical Production Trainees will work with the Arts Centre for 15 months, 20 hours per week, across staging, lighting and audio technical departments.

These are entry level positions and the trainees will receive extensive on and off the job training and complete the Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events.

You don’t need to have been employed professionally to apply, but you do need to have the bug for a technical career in the performing arts – in lighting, audio or staging (Additional disciplines such as Stage Managers, Wardrobe will occur at a separate time to be advised).

Your Role

Throughout the day: Tasks as assigned as per events/activities/corporate groups/weddings, setting up and packing down of sound equipment, maintenance of equipment, organises the ambiance music around the resort and other GO duties such as dining with guests for all meals and arrivals/departures.

8.30pm – 9.30pm Deliver the sound for the nightly show (different show each night of the week)

10.30pm – 11.30pm Show rehearsal (need to be present initially to learn the shows)

11pm – 2am DJ for the Nightclub (1 or 2 nights per week)

Responsibilities:

- Working with the Choreographer, design the audio plan for shows and deliver music for all performances – Set up and dismantle audio equipment for all remote (non-theatre) events – Maintain an active written inventory of all audio equipment – Follow Club Med’s standard operating procedures for maintenance of all equipment; partner with Club Med’s maintenance team for upkeep of house audio systems – In conjunction with the entertainment team, assist in the set-up and pack away props for all performances – Cover light technician responsibilities in their absence (days off)

Your Profile

- Available for a minimum 6 month contract, commitment free – Thorough understanding of sound design and techniques used in a live theatre environment – Proven experience in configuration, set-up, and maintenance of audio equipment in accordance with all safety guidelines – Experience in hospitality, preferably in hotels or resorts is desirable – An open mind and a passion for people with a sincere smile and engaging personality – Demonstration that you hold yourself in a professional manner, use language to suit a friendly, upscale, multicultural, family environment and can communicate with clarity – A high level of maturity in order to deal with living in an isolated island community (must be able to keep work and private life separate)
