Wakakirri TV Host Audition

Are you a big kid? Have you ever watcher ABC 3 hosts and thought “I could do that” Then you might just be perfect to co-host Wakakirri TV.

Wakakirri is a national festival that celebrates learning via the creation and sharing of stories. To be in Wakakirri, schools create stories using dance, song, film, art and writing to be performed, screened and displayed to audiences across Australia. Wakakirri holds shows in capital cities and country towns where schools stories are shared with a live audience of family, friends, industry professionals and other school communities.

In 2013 Wakakirri is launching a 12 part online series. With an emphasis on fun, this series will be taking children ranging form 5 to 10 years of age on an exciting wakakairri roller coaster ride of reviews, winner announcements, live show updates, and wacky interviews. The series will be focusing on items submitted by schools and students in Story Dance, Story Writing, Story Art, Story Film and Story Singing.

Our ideal hosts will have the ability to:
• Comfortably think on their feet and ad-lib,
• Is motivating, charismatic, warm, creative, and a little zany/wacky,
• Is Articulate
• Has an understanding of how to engage children ranging from 5 to 10 years of age.
• Ability to maintain an upbeat enthusiasm, whilst presenting reviews, crossing to Wakakirri stories, and conducting interviews
• Knowledge of how to perform for camera.

Auditions are held on the June 7th, must be availability during the day.

Actors must be available for a once a week filming session running from the July 14 to October 20th (12 episodes in total) – If you are not available for these 12 weeks, then we will not be able to take you as a Wakakirri Host.

We are now in production for our first play, TWO ROOMS, by Lee Blessing which will open at TAP GALLERY, Darlinghurst, from July 17 to August 4.
We seek a passionate stage / production manager to assist us in bringing this play to the level of quality it deserves. Ideally someone with some experience in working backstage theatre. This person would ideally begin the journey with us through the production/rehearsal stage to assist in scheduling , admin tasks, and keeping us moving forward! And then will need to be available for the performances to work as Stage Manager. This is a great opportunity to work on a great play with experienced, passionate actors in an exciting new theatre company that is going places!

Lee Blessing is a highly successful, Pulitzer Prize and award winning playwright. This play has been performed all over the world and we are very passionate about this story and bringing it to Australian audiences for the first time!”

ROLE OFFER
The successful applicant will be involved in the in development and presentation of the play for the stage, working closely with the Director & Producer, Production Manager and the company to manage the rehearsals and performances. Excellent communication and people management skills, schedule and budget management experience, and experience in stage/production management are integral components of the role.

Emu Heights Productions offer the opportunity to support performing arts education and access in Western Sydney; a role in the company profit share agreement through a net share of Box Office returns; the prospect to present in the famed Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre; and the chance to develop design creativity and skills in an ensemble of professional and generous theatre makers.

We are currently seeking a stage manager for our next production.

In July, we are presenting the premiere of A Knife Dream by Jonathan Ari Lander.

Jonathan Ari Lander is a Sydney based playwright. In 2008 he won the Max Afford Award for ‘Revolution’. ‘Revolution’ was subsequently presented at the 2009 National Play Festival in Tasmania. Ari was a 2008/2009 resident playwright at the Griffin Theatre Company. A Knife Dream was written during this residency. His play ‘Redemption’ was part of the 2010 season at the Old Fitzroy Theatre. His play ‘Ezekiel’s Song’ was co-winner of the 2009 St Martin’s Young Playwright’s Award. Ari attended the NIDA Playwrights’ Studio in 2010.

A Knife Dream is set in British Sarawak, post World War Two. The play is a powerful exploration of racism and paternalism.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a talented team presenting exciting new Australian work.

-Production dates are 3 July to 14 July 2013 at the Upstairs Theatre at TAP Gallery, Darlinghurst, Sydney.
-Bump-in will be 1 and 2 July.
-This production will be run on a profit share basis.

Wakakirri is seeking a workshop facilitators to lead a 2 hour workshop for Secondary School Students. Workshop to be held on 24th of April, at the Ministry of Dance.

In 2013 Wakakirri is pleased to announce the launch of their NEW Secondary School Challenge. The aim of this exciting new Challenge is to provide Secondary School students with an opportunity to explore what it takes to produce a professional event.

As part of this program Wakakirri will be running an Industry Day workshop for all secondary schools registered. Here students will receive industry professional training within: Directing, Designing, Lighting/Audio and Acting/Choreography.
