Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre, Preston, is a multipurpose performing arts centre comprising a 395 seat proscenium arch theatre, foyer, exhibition space and five multipurpose function rooms. An exciting opportunity exists at the Centre for a talented and motivated Venue Services Supervisor. The position will commence in late January 2012.

This full-time role ensures the Centre’s ticketing, administration and customer services are provided at an optimum level; the Centre and its programs and events are publicised and marketed effectively; and that activity and financial processes, recording and reporting are accurate and timely. The role also provides customer service and assistance at Reception as needed and occasionally acts as Front of House Supervisor or Ticketing Cashier for performances.

The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications and experience within an arts and ticketing context, and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service.

Holden Street Theatres is an exciting theatre company that hosts a variety of productions and events year round. We seek new approaches to making theatre and at a time when venues are closing and are threatening to close we continue to contribute to the vitality of the Arts Industry in South Australia.

For the Adelaide Fringe, Australia’s largest Arts festival, we extend ourselves to also program and operate the six spaces at Adelaide Town Hall and Thebarton Theatre. We become a hub for brilliant works, showcasing the highest caliber of local, national and international acts. Whether it be theatre, comedy, music, dance, puppetry or physical theatre: there really is something for everyone at Holden Street Theatres!

During this time we grow from our core team of four up to over fifty busy bodies and we are unable to achieve our great success without the phenomenal team of volunteers we attract every year to help run the multiple venues.

Position Description

The Street Team set out to raise awareness, publicise (in everyway that you can think of), and sell Holden Street Theatres shows, not only around our venues but anywhere and everywhere that potential Fringe patrons may be.

As part of the team you will distribute flyers in a unique and theatrical style and you will be responsible for ensuring there is adequate exposure (posters & Weslo guides) distributed in key areas, on the Holden Street Theatres poster boards and other wall spaces utilised by the company.

An ideal Street Team member will be confident, assertive, think outside the box and not mind long hours on your feet while you passionately promote!

As an extension of the FOH team, you will be called upon to assist with FOH duties from time to time.

Required Availability for Street Team: A minimum of three (3-5hr) day (and sometimes night) shifts per week from 20th February- 18th March plus induction (date to be confirmed).

We are an Artist Management company based in Fortitude Valley, looking for an enthusiastic and talented VIDEOGRAPHER/FILM MAKER/PHOTOGRAPHER ALL-ROUNDER to join us as a temporary member of the marketing team, working on the FILMING & PACKAGING OF PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL for one of our clients, who is a world-renowned Australian touring musical group in the classical/crossover genre.

The project you will be working on will involve filming behind the scenes footage at rehearsals, studio recordings, photo shoots and social activities, to gather material for an Electronic Press Kit that we plan to use to promote the group to new markets all over the world.

In addition, the successful candidate will be willing to snap stills during filming down-time which will also be used for promotional purposes.

This is a significant opportunity for a Film and TV student looking to apply the skills learnt at university to real-world situations, and add valuable experience to your resume.

The project will run from 9th May – 15th June, and there will be some weekend work. We can offer flexible working hours; however, you must be willing and able to commit to the project in full and meet the deadlines set.

Some basic filming equipment is available for your use, however if you have preferred equipment you are invited to bring it along.

This is real-world work. We require a professional, friendly and reliable person to join the team and whilst it is voluntary work, benefits include gaining valuable insight into the inner-workings of the entertainment industry, making industry contacts, liner credits for any of your work we publish, as well as the potential to become a permanent member of the team, which might also include future touring opportunities for the right candidate. I’m looking for a publicist to promote my show ‘ACCIDENTS ARE PROHIBITED ON THIS ROAD’ for the Adelaide Fringe from 1st March to the 12th March (here’s a clip of the show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oytZhtTQbY).

Ideally this is for someone who is trying to get into publicity and needs the experience (alas, we artists have very little money) so I’m offering a percentage of the net profit. However, I will pay for relevant expenses and give a limited number of free tickets.

You’ll need to have initiative, an outgoing personality, be able to think outside the box, develop your own contacts that might be relevant to the show (eg. Travel Organisations, Backpackers, Travel clothing stores…anything to do with travel, comedy) and seek interviews for local radio, newspapers, online artist guides, forums. You also should be able to start immediately.

The Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) is housed in the exquisite Greenway building, which it shares with the Conservatorium High School (CHS), located in a landmark position at the heart of Sydney’s cultural precinct, close to the Sydney Opera House and surrounded by the Royal Botanic Gardens.
One of the oldest and most prestigious music institutions in Australia, it is a distinctive part of Sydney’s arts and educational nucleus. The Conservatorium is renowned for its exceptional commitment to music, innovative programs and partnership programs with Australia’s major music organisations. The facilities are regarded as one of the finest in the world, with 5 performance venues, including the prestigious Verbrugghen Hall, and over 130 teaching and practice studios spanning almost thirty thousand square metres.

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Venues Manager to manage the overall operation of the Conservatorium performance venues and teaching spaces in accordance with policy, ensuring the integrity of the building as a music education and performance facility is protected. In this dynamic position, you will supervise a team of staff, prepare regular financial, usage and status reports, work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders and collect feedback on the performance and quality of house services.

Your strong relationship management and negotiation skills with see you effectively coordinating with relevant sponsors, promoters and associated stakeholders including the CHS and various staff and management of the SCM to ensure event coordination and production are undertaken in accordance with project milestones and deadlines and consistent with the teaching and other requirements of the SCM and CHS. Under the broad direction of the General Manager, Operations and the Conservatorium Precinct Committee, you will utilise your strong managerial, problem solving and organisational skills to meet tight deadlines in a fast paced and high volume environment. Your policy orientation and client focus will assist you in managing internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner.

Critical to this role will be your superior interpersonal and project management skills as well as competency in performance venue management, stage management and production. Your financial acumen and creative approach will see you working with minimal supervision. Highly developed computing skills including Events Perfect software and the ability to take initiative will ensure you manage all facets of this high profile performance venue including budgets and participating in committee meetings. The successful applicant will also be required to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility to respond to the changing needs of the SCM and the CHS and understand and apply OH & S policies and guidelines as well as statutory requirements for public venues. You will be physically fit and able to lift and manoeuvre equipment. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory health assessment. You will have an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training (preferably gained in a music performance and education environment).

The position is full-time fixed term for three years subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees with the possibility of further offer of employment of two years. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package : $93,782 – $105,766p.a. (including base salary at HEO 8 $79,247 – $89,374 p.a plus leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).

‘Alaska’ is about a group of young people working in a cinemaplex and coming to terms with race, sexuality and finding their direction in life. It received rave reviews after its debut in London in 2007. As the ‘Independent’ reviewed:

“D C Moore’s debut is a searing and uncomfortable probing of prejudice in all its forms, from the offensive jokes and lazy stereotyping which pepper idle conversation to the out and out racist rants of the play\‘s anti-hero. This bigot is Frank, a university drop-out who now works at the local multiplex where he spends his breaks smoking and playing Dictators Top Trumps. It’s only when Mamta, an “Asian Babe” arrives and becomes his boss that he gives full vent to his white supremacist beliefs. And he makes a nasty habit of forcing his views on anyone who will listen, much as he forces unwanted cigarettes, booze and, occasionally, sex on them too.”
